Tajikistan’s territory is quite small which makes 149 thousand square kilometers. It is located in the middle between the countries as Kyrgyzstan, China, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan. It boasts with one of the highest mountainous system called Pamir. It is translated as ‘roof of the world’ which explains the reason why the country is so popular for alpinism and mountain tours. Tajikistan has the biggest number of highest peaks exceeding over 7,000 meters. Due to the climatic condition and geographical positing, the Pamir people were long isolated from the rest of the world until the first settlement of Tsarist Russian who started constructing the road in Pamir in the contest with Great Britan in the great game. Tajikistan was also part of the Soviet Union. They are the only group among Central Asian countries who do not belong to Turkic tribes. Their origin goes back to Persian culture and they speak Farsi. The main religion is Islam, even though the country is unitary and secular state. If you dream of travelling in Tajikistan make sure you make ready all the documents beforehand especially the GBAO permit to travel to Pamir Highway.
